Seeing housing from every side of the table

My journey into housing advocacy comes from walking in nearly every pair of shoes in the housing ecosystem. Over the years, I have experienced housing as a tenant, homeowner, housing provider, and property management consultant. Working alongside tenants, landlords, contractors, property owners, and families navigating real-world housing challenges taught me an important lesson: many conflicts are not simply about bad intentions—they often grow from poor communication, unclear expectations, limited knowledge, and a lack of shared understanding.

What I bring to this work is more than personal experience. I am a retired United States Navy Veteran, and my military service taught me the value of discipline, accountability, leadership, teamwork, and approaching problems with a mission and a solution in mind. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and am just two classes away from completing my Master’s degree. My education has strengthened my ability to listen, communicate across different perspectives, simplify complicated information, and help people move from confusion to clarity.

I have also worked closely with tenants who naturally look to me as a coach, advocate, and trusted guide when they are trying to understand housing issues, communicate with management, or make better decisions about their next steps. At the same time, I have worked with landlords and property owners who rely on me to help identify and place qualified, long-term tenants, improve communication, and create stronger landlord-tenant relationships from the very beginning.

That experience has shown me that I do not have to choose one side in order to help people. I can support tenants in becoming more informed, prepared, and responsible while also helping landlords and property managers create better systems, reduce vacancies, and build stable relationships with qualified residents.

That combination of lived experience, military leadership, education, coaching, and hands-on housing work helped shape the vision behind Lady D’s Springfield Tenant & Landlord Bootcamp Training. I do not believe the housing conversation should be built around an “us against them” mentality. Tenants should not automatically be viewed as the enemy of landlords, and landlords and property managers should not automatically be treated as the enemy of tenants. Real progress happens when people are willing to come to the same table.

That is why I created a space where tenants, property managers, landlords, and community members can learn together, understand their individual responsibilities, ask difficult questions, communicate more effectively, and work toward practical solutions before disagreements become crises.

I believe education can change the entire tone of a housing relationship. When people know the rules, understand their roles, communicate clearly, and hold one another accountable, we have a better opportunity to create safer homes, stronger relationships, responsible property management, successful long-term tenancies, and stronger communities.

I bring the experience of someone who has lived it, the discipline of a Navy Veteran, the education of a communicator, the heart of a coach, and the practical experience of helping both tenants and housing providers succeed.

Food, fellowship, and lifelong education

Lady D represents a complete lifestyle of community empowerment. Housing advocacy, financial readiness, and lease literacy are essential pillars, but connection happens through multiple doorways. Through the Lady D Soul Food Kitchen, good meals open doors to fellowship, warmth, and honest conversations that break down barriers.

Whether teaching a room how to interpret property policies, cooking a wholesome meal for neighbors, or supporting the development of a Springfield Tenant Union, the goal remains the same: nurturing human dignity and equipping families with the tools to prosper.

"Better housing, clearer communication, and stronger communities are possible when we are willing to come to the same table."
